Subjective/Objective

After dropping the boys off at school this morning, I decided to take a morning coffee/smoke break outside before leaving for work. The thermometer on my car, as I was driving home, read 48 degrees. So there I am, sitting, smoking, watching the rain fall, sans coat or hat or even long sleeves. Then I started wondering about temperature. I dislike the cold. But every spring, with the first hint of warmer weather, all of a sudden I shed my outerwear. But then every autumn as soon as the first frost hits it’s sweaters and hats. But the objective temperature is the same. Why is it warm one month and cold the next? Is this just the same as one hand in ice water, another in hot water and then running both under warm water?

So I suppose this puts looking at the weather report for far away places is irrelevant. The number listed for temperature really cannot have any meaning for us, given that the same objective measure can have varying subjective interpretations (as hot or cold). Therefore I have a big middle finger for the weather channel. Rendered obsolete by a simple-minded observation. HA

[plus, watching the weather channel really is a metaphysical death]
